Views: 2391 Replies: 13 Users Viewing This Thread. So off to Volvo this morning to get the Security Patch applied to the XC and the MOST security switched off. £60 and a couple of hours later, I fire the car up and have music streaming from my phone to the GROM MST3 now working as virtual CD player plugged to the back of the Premium Sound unit in the car. Stopped to pick up a sandwich, turned on the ignition - Blank radio screen.

Got the car home. Had my sandwich. Went to the car to investigate and the screen lit up again. Everything fine. Selected 'FM' then turned the knob back to 'CD'.

Blank screen. No Streaming.

With the radio set to 'CD' I turned the ignition on and off again a few times. Sometimes there's a blank screen - Sometimes the screen fires up. On the occasions it all works, sometimes if you select 'FM' and then turn the knob back to 'CD' the screen goes blank. Sometimes it all works and streams tracks via Bluetooth just fine. Tried uninstalling the GROM and plugging everything back in again as Volvo made it to be. CD Changer works fine everytime.

Plugged the GROM back in and again, it works but only intermittently. Called Volvo - They're adamant that the patch was properly applied. They applied it once and then tried to apply it again getting the message that it had already been applied. So they're saying it's not them. Called GROM - They're adamant that the only time such behaviour is exhibited by an XC90 system is when the MOST security is still on and the patch hasn't been applied. Rock and very hard place for me at the moment - I can get my money back from GROM, but i really don't want a Parrot!

If it were working only once or twice and then never again, I'd agree with GROM that it's the security patch that's the problem. However, given the problem is so intermittent and the GROM hasn't been permanently kicked out and turned off, I'm starting to think it might be their unit rather than the car. Anyone else had similar issues? There is an identical thread to this from May this year, but the chap who posted it was a new member, and hasn't posted anything since then. There was no resolution at the time. So off to Volvo this morning to get the Security Patch applied to the XC and the MOST security switched off.

Firstly volvo dealers are not supposed to turn security off for you, It is only a temporary thing for their workshop to use under volvo technical dept supervision whilst testing! So maybe you can see now why dealers are not supposed to get involved with issues like this and also fitting second hand units. They can get lumbered with problems that are not their fault and they have no support from volvo in fixing it. If say 2 years down the line you get a problem with your Hi-Fi system in the car and it goes to a dealer to be fixed, they will have on record who turned it off and when. This is addressed more to the place that did it rather than you. I've been having the same game of ping-pong with the Carputer Shop who are the UK's official suppliers of the GROM MST3P. After listening to the blame-game from both Volvo and them and paying out to have MOST switched off by two separate dealers, both confirming the car was now flagged as being 'off', I was advised by The Carputer Shop to try their suppliers, GROM USA as a last ditch attempt before returning it. I was given categorical assurance that they'd take the thing back if it didn't work and give me a full refund for it and the bluetooth dongle and mic I bought with it. By the time we'd realised we weren't going to get anywhere, and had come across others who were having the same problem with their XC90s, it was Christmas. Called them last Monday, was advised to send it back for a full refund packaged in its box.

Sent it special delivery and received an email on Friday stating that it had arrived with them with scratches and dents all over it. There was one small dent on it when it left me which was as a result of it being installed and reinstalled twice in the very tight space provided in the XC.But it was one tiny dink, and nothing else. No scratches, no other dents. They also stated it's working in a C70 they've got.

They had also pointed out that I'd forgotten to enclose the USB stick sold with it. My mistake and I've emailed them back stating I'll send that tomorrow. Their email is a bit odd really - Hasn't said they won't refund in full, but it hasn't said they're prepared to honour the original agreement. Has the potential to get a bit messy at the moment. I do hope not, but it's really up to them. I'll report back and let you know how I get on with The Carputer Shop either way. Just in case you're wondering, in the end with grief being received on Overdrive from Mrs R about this, and over a hundred quid spent on MOST patches with Volvo I got her a Dension just before Christmas which worked as it should first time and continues to do so.

What functions are you looking for iPod / Music integration? I thought GROM was good until I read some of these reviews. Dension seems to be limited or not supported on a 2007+ XC90, have you looked at any of the Volvotech kits? I've got a Volvotech Group Buy going on at the moment, check the sticky in the XC90 forum for details. Handsfree and bluetooth music streaming from Android handsets via Motorola HF kit which is currently and annoyingly connected via a std SOT lead, the sound quality, or lack thereof is driving me mad. Probably gonna go down the OASi route Mike.
